Anthony Spano
Anthony Spano owned a family-operated grocery store until he retired in 2019. The Red and White Markets had been in Spano’s family for three generations, and Spano had spent time and worked at the store in south Oceanside his entire life.
Working at a grocery store didn’t allow Spano the time to attend college, although he briefly attended MiraCosta College after he graduated from high school.
After he retired, the sale of the store was handled by Amy McNamara, a principal with the Urban Property Groups commercial real estate firm and a member of the MiraCosta College Foundation board. She suggested to Spano that he should join the foundation board.
Spano said he hopes to help give MiraCosta College students the opportunity to succeed at college, and understands the challenges of students who are working while attending college.
