Jimmy Figueroa
Jimmy Figeuroa is a community advocate who works with at-risk and high-risk youth to improve the support systems and build resilience for all residents in North San Diego County.
He currently serves as Donor Relations Manager at TrueCare, where they specialize in providing quality healthcare and wellness services to underserved communities so people can get the care they need. TrueCare's goal is to make healthcare available to everyone in the communities they serve, regardless of income or insurance status.
Previously he worked as Executive Director for Operation HOPE - North County, a nonprofit organization that provides a safe, supportive, and caring environment to families with children and single women experiencing homelessness as they rebuild their lives and reclaim independence. In addition to his nonprofit leadership, Jimmy is an active Commissioner for the North County Gang Commission, where he assists with gang prevention efforts and acts as liaison between the community, local youth, transitioning gang members, and partnering agencies. Jimmy has also supported the Oceanside Promise initiative as a leadership team member, supporting the organization's efforts in developing and implementing a collaborative community impact initiative to decrease high school dropout rates, improve Latino youth illiteracy rates, and expand the higher education pipeline for Oceanside students.
Jimmy has dedicated his personal and professional life to helping young people succeed, which is a big reason why he volunteers his time on the board at MiraCosta College, the same place where his own life changed many years ago.
Growing up, Jimmy spent little time in school and hung around friends who were in and out of jail and prison. He dropped out of high school and was on a dangerous path until he found MiraCosta College. After his mother began taking English classes at the college’s Community Learning Center and urged him to enroll there, Jimmy quickly discovered a support system that had been lacking all of his life. MiraCosta teachers and counselors helped him earn his GED and high school diploma, after which he became an honor student at MiraCosta and later secured a scholarship to UC Berkeley.
Today, Jimmy uses his journey of resilience and self-determination to mentor youth who have similar experiences. Through his work with Resilience, Jimmy has been able to support high-risk youth in the community and create stronger pathways for success within the Oceanside community. He is also the Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee for the local North San Diego County NAACP.
For his leadership and advocacy work in North County, Jimmy has received numerous awards, including the California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition, Espiritu de la Comunidad North County Leadership Awards, and the North County Gang Commission Appreciation Honor.
