Sharon Wiback, Ph.D.
Dr. Sharon Wiback is an engineer with more than 20 years of experience in biotechnology and biosustainability. After completing her doctorate in bioengineering at University of California, San Diego, Sharon was one of the first employees at Genomatica, where she developed models and designed software for the biosustainability startup. She later went on to oversee product development at Biovia, a Dassault Systèmes company focused on scientific innovation. Sharon then ran her own consulting business for 5 years working as a part time project manager for the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability as well as a LIMS consultant at JoynBio. In late 2022 Sharon joined the Sequoia Consulting Group as a Senior Staff Business Analyst in their Business Process and Analysis group.
When she was first asked to join the MiraCosta College Foundation Board of Directors in 2018, Sharon already had a strong knowledge of the programs that the school offers to the community. Her two children had spent years attending the MiraCosta summer College for Kids programs when they were younger and her husband had recently taken classes at MiraCosta to help him in pursuit of a new career opportunity. Always one to find ways to make a difference in her professional roles and personal endeavors, Sharon jumped at the opportunity to serve on the foundation board.
Given her connection to the biotechnology sector and innovation economy in the region, Sharon uses her expertise to support the growth of the biomanufacturing program and other MiraCosta initiatives that provide critical opportunities to students in the region.
Sharon has published numerous scientific research papers and has received multiple awards for her excellence in the field of biotechnology, including the Biovia Research & Development Award.
